Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) & Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)

What is Hyundai’s Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) & Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)?

There are around 6 million vehicle accidents every year in the United States, 6% of which end in fatal collisions. Hyundai strives to combat this growing problem by developing a set of safety and technology features that can reduce the damage done by collisions or even avoid them completely. With this in mind, Hyundai has deployed the Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) & Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) across its 2020 and 2021 models. BCW uses radar sensors located in the rear bumper to scan any vehicles in your blind-spot in conjunction with a forward facing camera to detect the lane markers in front of you.

The Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) system works by scanning your blind-spot area for any approaching vehicles, if the system detects a vehicle a small icon appears on your side mirror to alert the driver that a vehicle is unseen in your blindspot. If you activate your turn signal to the side where the vehicle is in your blind-spot, the system will sound an audible alert to further warn the driver. The Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) works on top of BCW to provide additional safety, and if needed, take control of the vehicle to prevent an imminent collision. The system will brake and steer the vehicle back into its original lane If the driver is unaware of the audio and visual warnings that a vehicle is in your blind-spot.
